The MLD is an additional training, which falls within the scope of the field of activity of physiotherapists and masseurs. These are special skin-shifting and edema-grips, to improve the outflow of the so-called lymphatic loads (water, protein and fat molecules, cells), or permit. The effectiveness of these methods have been scientifically proven. Anatomy & Physiology Our body has a so-called lymphatic system. This begins with “blind ends” lying in the tissue, the tissue fluid with all its components (cell debris, molecules, fat proteins, etc.) is absorbed from them. About several stations they end in the lymph nodes. Of these larger collecting vessels they lead to the venous angle near the heart and enter the lymph fluid into the blood circulation system. About 2 liters of tissue fluid to be filtered daily.

In the lymph nodes, which mainly take over the function of a filter, are all substances, whether they are fats, proteins, cells, pathogens etc. checked for danger for the organism and optionally retained. In addition, there body’s own defense cells are formed. Thus, the lymphatic system makes a significant contribution to the immune system (by intercepting z. B. tumor cells).

Lymphatic vessels have similar characteristics to the veins, so there are superficial and deep vessels and valves with valve function. For MLD superficial lymphatics are decisive, as they collect the lymph from the deep lymphatic vessels and lead to the lymph nodes. In addition, lymphatic vessels have the property to contract with a fundamental frequency of 2 to 5 times per minute, thus further transport the lymph. Implementation & effect The main task of the MLD, it is now, to influence these fundamental frequency of lymph vessels. This is done by “skin sliding handles”, in which the hands are placed flat and with a finely metered pressure strength. The effect is reflected in the outflow of the so-called lymphatic loads (water, protein and fat molecules, cells). Therefore, in a lymphatic drainage of the legs an increased urination be noticing and when applied to the upper body an amplified swallowing. The lymphatic drainage acts in addition to dampen the cycle, thus is not a subsequent slight fatigue rare. With regular and consistent application of the new formation and reorientation of lymphatic vessels is supported. Main applications • lymphatic congestion with fluid retention

  • swelling in rheumatic diseases in the area of the joint capsule
  • after injuries
  • bruising
  • cancer aftercare
