Manual therapy literally means “healing with the hands”. Its origins can be traced up to the development of osteopathy. So you could call manual therapy also as “parietal” Osteopathy.

The MT is a special treatment method of physiotherapy. In the training to physiotherapists, students are introduced to the basics of MT. It belongs to the remedies catalog of health insurance companies. It is paid by public health insurances, If it´s prescribed by a doctor and carried out by certified manual therapist.

Treatment of MT aims to resolve problems of the musculoskeletal system. This includes the muscles, the joints with all the associated passive elements (capsule, ligaments, etc.) and the nervous system.

The base for an effective implementation of MT techniques, is the localization of the cause of the pain. So due to malfunctions of the pelvis a pain in the knee region may arise. Therefore, it is easy to understand that successful treatment is only possible if it’s preceded by a thorough diagnosis. Typically, at least the first treatment unit is used for that.
